The COVID-19 crisis is affecting the entire world economy and that of Africa. It is defining global health crisis of our time and the greatest challenge we have faced since World War Two. COVID-19 is a communicable respiratory disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus that causes illness in humans.

Coronavirus was confirmed to have spread to Africa on 14 February, 2020. The first confirmed case was in Egypt, and the first confirmed case in sub-Saharan Africa was in Nigeria.

Governments and health authorities across the continent are striving to limit widespread infections. Some key sectors of the African economy, such as Tourism, air transport, and the oil sector is visibly impacted and already experiencing a slowdown as a result of the pandemic.
