EmpowerHER Project Takes Stride Towards Gender Equality in Egypt

Egypt is experiencing a growth in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Yet, there is a lack of workplace translation of Egyptian women’s significant STEM representation.

Founded in 2020, the Global Sustainable Futures: Progress through Partnerships Network (GSFN) materialised out of the need to connect the Global South with the Global North and co-address the pressing challenges to sustainable futures through constructive partnerships. Meanwhile, the network looks forward to full-fledged collaborative and interactive activities and co-creating knowledge and practices beyond national borders and academic disciplines, contributing to achieving and realising the SDGs Agenda 2030 and beyond. Similarly, the network is committed to creating collaboration/partnerships across low-, middle- and high-income countries, reaching out through its coordinators to secure globally sustainable futures that are urgent and essential.

EmpowerHER initiative, backed by British Council Grant Winners, to host an international workshop in Alexandria, Egypt, from February 18-20, 2024. The project aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM careers, offering free workshops and networking opportunities for women across the globe.

In a groundbreaking move, EmpowerHER, a collaborative effort between Dr Renuka Thakore and Prof Yasser Gaber Dessouky, supported by the British Council Going Global Partnerships grant, is set to revolutionize the landscape for women in STEM careers in Egypt.

The project, scheduled for a high-profile international workshop on February 18-20, 2024, in Alexandria, Egypt, will bring together women leaders and professionals to exchange knowledge and experiences, fostering international partnerships.

EmpowerHER aims to address the gender gap in STEM, offering a one-year program investing in women’s education and workforce development. With a focus on stimulating innovation, the initiative strives to unlock a larger talent pool essential for Egypt’s economic growth.

Calling for active participation, EmpowerHER invites keynote speakers, mentors, students, researchers, and stakeholders to engage in various activities, from interviews and round table discussions to seminars and one-to-one meetings.

The initiative doesn’t stop there – it opens its doors to the wider community, offering free workshops from February 18 to 20, empowering women with entrepreneurial skills and setting the stage for a year-long program.

“You are invited to register for the hybrid workshop, a unique opportunity to tap into STEM expertise, develop critical thinking skills, and explore immersive game environments,” says EmpowerHER, emphasizing the significance of women contributing to social and economic benefits globally.

The EmpowerHER project is not just breaking barriers; it’s paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered future for women in STEM.
